New Year, New Goals

New Year, New Goals

So since December was a big health fail (okay, half fail), it's time to get back to the routine again. And what better way to figure out my goals than with my handy dandy notebook?!

Okay, it's actually a passion planner and I am in love with it, but first, who loves when a new year rolls around? I know I do and I am definitely one of those that welcomes the new year with excitement because I feel like I’ve been given a new blank slate to work with and a chance to start over in the areas where I’ve slacked off in towards the end of the year. Sometimes it’s starting strong again with the same ol' goals from prior years and sometimes it’s completely new goals that I’ve set for myself.

This year one of my goals is to have full balance in all areas of my life, at all times. Sometimes I have periods where I let certain areas overtake others. It could be focusing too much on my health (and not enough on the kids) or focusing too much on my business (and not enough on me) or having too much outdoor fun back-to-back (and letting the house fall apart). So my goal is to have a good balance of everything. Because it’s not like any of those things are bad, they just need to be done in balance so that no area is neglected at any given point.

So thanks to my passion planner, I should be able to accomplish this. It breaks down your day in to 30 minute intervals not only keeping you ultra organized, but productive with your days as well. The other thing I love about it, is it’s a journal geared towards goal making and breaking them down to things that can be done daily or weekly to help you to actually achieve them. It is the perfect way to start achieving those BIG goals that may seem impossible or too far away, now.

I started using this planner right after the summer and I love it! It helped me to stay organized with all of our different schedules (and the period of "Single Mom Life" that I experienced with the hubby working in Texas) and to already take small steps towards achieving some of those big and scary goals that I have. Now looking back, I can’t believe some of the things that I did to start on the paths of some of those goals. I’m actually really proud of myself. Often times it’s taking the first step that’s the hardest, and this planner helped me to do just that. And I’m talking old school mind mapping stuff. But hey, I like the old school way and this is one area where technology does not work for me. I like to actually write things down and cross things off my list as I do them. There is something that is so satisfying about crossing things off my list. I don't know if I'm just weird or what, but doing it digitally just isn't the same.

I tried digital planners for years, but found that they just don't work for me for some reason. I went back to a planner just over a year ago (in November 2016) and I am loving it! This just works for me. So question? What works for you? Is anyone else out there old school like me? For those of you that stay organized the digital way, how do you do it and what works for you? I'm interested to know.

Anyways! Moving on. So what are my new health goals as this new month and year begins? Well nothing too crazy or out of the ordinary, just a new DAY 1 to start over and to start strong again. My main goal is to workout every single day (minus Sundays, which are my rest days) AND to eat healthy 95% of the time. Usually I allow myself one cheat meal a week, but for the month of January I'm going to try and do without those cheat meals. I will allow myself one cheat a week, but not a whole meal. I'm also trying not to eat any fast food this month either. Fast food is definitely my weakness, but I know when I set my mind to something, I can do it! Lastly, I've been drinking a lot of Vitamin Waters lately but for this month I'm going to do without those. No more vitamin waters for me. I'm going to stick to strictly water only! So day 1 was on Wednesday, January 3rd.

So do I think this will be hard? I actually don't, but only because I feel so gross from my bad eating over the holidays. I am actually excited for it! After eating healthy for so long, it doesn't take much to get me to feel completely disgusting. I will say this, though, the part that will be hard will be adjusting to smaller portion sizes again. I think I sort of binged over the holidays and went to town with how much I ate. I started eating bigger portions again (like my high school/college days), so getting my portions down to a healthy amount again will feel really hard the first couple of days. So I will probably eat more than I should at first, but if I just eat a little less each day, I should be fine. I prefer to ease back in to it to make it more do-able and realistic. So I just gotta do a little bit of shrinking the stomach down, then I should be good! Anyways, what are some of your goals? Are you excited for them like I am? Or are you dreading them? (And this is a safe place so feel free to be open and honest.)

Well, that is it for this post. Good luck to everyone with new health (or life) goals. I wish you all the best. Happy New Year! Xo!
