Back in the day, I was a Pop Warner cheerleader. I cheered on the PeeWee & Midgit Cheer Squads for the Ko'olauloa Pop Warner Teams here in Hawaii.
During my last year as a cheerleader, I was awarded Female Scholar Athlete of the Year for the entire State of Hawaii. Because of that accomplishment, the Pop Warner Association flew me (as well as my Mom) up to Phoenix, Arizona for the national awards ceremony. I was so honored and thrilled to go on that trip and to represent our beautiful state of Hawaii. BUT little did we know, I was actually sent up there to receive another award. I had actually won the overall award of National Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and received a $5,000 scholarship!! I was so happy and so shocked! Who woulda thought that a little Hawaii Girl like me could go up to Arizona to win top scholar of the year out of all of the other states?! I know I definitely wasn't expecting that, but what a great blessing that was for me. My hard work and busy life of extra-curricular activities definitely paid off.
Something even cooler is that I was featured in the National Cheerleader Magazine the next month and was pictured in it with NFL Player, Frank Sanders, who awarded me on stage at the ceremony. I also had the opportunity to meet Frank Bledsoe, Drew Bledsoe's Dad and old teammate of Junior AhYou. Loved this surprise of a trip. Xo!
