Something cool about me that a lot of people don't know, is that I was born in Germany. Yes, GERMANY! I was born in Frankfurt, but lived in a small country town called, Bad Kissingen.
Bad Kissingen is Germany's world famous "spa town" known for its mineral springs and wellness treatments, and the crazy thing is that I still remember this place. I remember where we lived, where I went to school & where we would go together as a family. And even though I was just a young girl, I can still remember how beautiful and quaint this little town was.
Best thing about living in Germany as a kid, though, would have to be the kinder eggs. Haha! Hands down best childhood ever thanks to those fun little toy filled chocolate eggs. Oh, and they had some pretty amazing playgrounds and parks as well. The downside? Having to drink the mineral water. Whenever my grandparents would come for a visit, they'd make us (my brother and I) drink it! And I specifically remember not liking it. It was probably something I didn't like just because I was a kid, though. I bet you I'd think much differently about it now, but those are just some of the memories I have. That and picking blackberries in the bushes, cherries from our cherry tree and ordering "Chocolat" ice cream in German. ;)
So I was born in Frankfurt, lived in Bad Kissingen and would frequent Schweinfurt, where my Dad worked and was based. And yes, if you haven't guessed by now, we were a military family. But I don't think I quite realized at the time how blessed I was to have had that experience in my childhood. To have lived in such a beautiful country. To have traveled around Europe. I remember visiting the famous sites, going to castles, licking a salt mine, visiting Paris. I mean, come on! How lucky was I? We even went to Hitler's Eagle Nest & Bertchesgaden. But what I think I am most grateful for, is the fact that I remember it. Well, most of it. I don't remember the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy or the beauty of Switzerland, but I do remember a lot. Pretty much everything else.....
.....and I just can't wait to go back and visit someday!
