This year I got to participate in the Heiva I Honolulu 2016 Tahiti Fete and wow, it has been ages since I last performed at one of these.
The difference with this time around compared to past years, however, was not having Uncle Raymond Mariteragi there with us. But that is exactly what made this performance so very special. We did a tribute to him and all the service he's done for us and for our community and I have to say, it was quite the spiritual experience for all of us. Not only did we honor him, but we honored all of our ancestors and loved ones that have gone before us. It was a beautiful performance.
What an honor it was to dance with Toae Tumu Nonosina Hawaii again. So thankful for Uncle Jon and Aunty Tiani and for all of the hard work, time and effort they put in to this. We are blessed to have such amazing and talented ra'atira. I'll be forever grateful for them.
And as a side note, it was sooo nice to dance again. I've sure missed it. As the saying goes, "Once a dancer, always dancer." You just can't keep me away! Lol.
I'm also very thankful for a supportive hubby who let me participate in this without complaint. It was a lot of practices away, but nothing he couldn't handle. Thank you, my love.
Until the next one (because I'm hoping this wasn't my last)....
