New Beach Body Program: The 21 Day Fix

Wow, ever since I began my new journey as a flight attendant, I have been so MIA from the health world. However, I am happy to report that I am finally back!

So a little recap. At 6 weeks postpartum, I started working out consistently again to 1.) get back in to shape and to 2.) lose the baby weight I gained. I would work out in our apartment gym and eat healthy, but that honestly only lasted for about a month and a half because ever since I started training, I just haven't had the time. Training and probation has been so intense and because of the crazy schedule, my diet has suffered as well. But I finally decided, enough is enough! I had already gained back some of the weight that I lost and I wasn't even done losing weight to begin with!

So what did I do?

Well, I started a new Beach Body Program!

Okay so you've probably heard of some of the more popular Beach Body programs out there like T25, P90X, Insanity, etc. but the one that I did was the 21 Day Fix by Autumn Calabrese.

Since I had failed so many attempts at trying to get back in to shape after baby (due to my new job & new lifestyle), I decided I needed to do something different. I needed something to be excited about and something to really get me motivated to make the change back to a healthy lifestyle. And THIS ended up being the perfect thing! It came with 30 minute workout DVDs, portion control containers and an eating plan.

In addition to that, there was an app that I could use to track my progress and meals with, and honestly, this is what made all the difference for me. I finally finally figured out how to change my lifestyle and lose weight even with my new flight attendant lifestyle. Autumns saying (which you've probably heard before), is that it takes 21 days to break a habit and 21 days to start a new one and I totally believe it now. If soda addicted me could get "un-addicted" even while serving hundreds of passengers soda on the daily, then anyone can do it. I was able to demonstrate some major self control and even I surprised myself. I really wasn't sure if I could do it, but since I was determined to see results from this program, I followed it to a T, and that meant no soda!

Something that I really loved about this program is that I actually had plenty to eat. Not only that, but I wouldn't even be able to finish all of my containers by the end of the day sometimes. In fact that happened a lot, but since I was already satisfied there was no need to eat more. So no starving in this program, it's just eating the right foods and the right portions. And even though I went over in some categories some days, it taught me to know how much I'm supposed to be eating of each food group. Love how this trained me to eat the right servings our bodies are meant to eat.

Here are my results after 6 weeks/2 rounds of the 21 Day Fix. August 1st (Day 1) is on the left and September 11th (end of week 6) is on the right.

I lost 10 pounds and 8 inches.

So huge thank you to Autumn Calabrese and to Beach Body for coming up with this amazing program. It wasn't always easy, but all the hard work definitely paid off. I still can't believe that I only ate out ONCE in the whole 6 weeks. That is so good (especially considering all the layovers I had), but something I learned is that it really is all about the nutrition.

The quote I always kept in mind was "if you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail." And since I didn't want to fail I put a lot of effort in to making sure I always had a stocked fridge with food packed and ready to go. So how did I do that? Well by meal prepping, of course!

I had actually never done it before, but with my flight attendant job, I just knew that there was no other way that this would work. So I was sort of forced in to it, if you will. ;) And what I found out was that it's actually not that hard and not that long. It would only take me about an hour and a half, once a week. And since I (along with most Moms that I know) don't usually have a straight hour and a half to meal prep, I'd break it up. I'd usually spend an hour cooking, then I'd stop and do whatever I needed to do and then come back and spend another 20-30 minutes getting the food packed in to containers. It really wasn't that bad.

I also learned that it really does take only 3 weeks/21 days to break a bad habit and form a new one. One that I am most proud of (which I briefly mentioned before) is breaking my soda addiction. I love soda. Like LOVE it! But for years I've known that the amount I've been drinking is just too much. I've tried to break the habit so many times, but I eventually always go back to drinking it. But now it's all about the water, baby! Just pure water or lemon infused water when I am at work, and I am so proud of myself. Like you guys don't even realize what an accomplishment this is when I'm literally cracking cans all day. My success with not drinking soda in the past was because I just wouldn't buy it; it wouldn't be in my home to tempt me. But now it's everywhere, all around me, and to have not given in this entire time is quite the accomplishment. (Not to toot my own horn or anything. Haha!) 

I've also kept track of how much water I've been drinking each day on an app. I've been trying to hit the amount that I'm supposed to drink each day, and although I haven't hit it yet, I've come reeeeally close, which is another huge accomplishment since I naturally just don't drink much. So yay for only drinking water & yay for drinking lots of it! I am very proud of myself.

The last and final thing I wanted to say about the 21 Day Fix is that it is realistic and something you can easily incorporate in to your daily life. By the time you've completed the program, you've made eating healthy a habit already, so it is easy to continue living this way. The other awesome thing about it, is after you are happy with your results you can switch to the maintenance program, which basically just increases the amount of containers/portions you can have a day. In fact, this program is meant for you to do that. It was made to help you make it a lifestyle, not just something you do for a short period of time to lose weight. Which is just another reason why I absolutely loved this program!

If you are ready to make a lifestyle change, but don't know where to start, I'd highly recommend this program. It is easy to do, easy to follow and the workouts aren't too intense either.
