4th of July 2011
Something we did over this 4th of July weekend, was camp out on University Avenue in preparation for the 4th of July parade the next morning. It's a tradition that many people do, so we did it too! The next morning, Spencer and I took on the challenge of the 5K run they have before the parade. I didn't know if we were actually going to do it anymore with the lack of sleep we got that night, but amazingly, we did do it! And it just so happened to be my first 5K ever! I know, I know, you're probably thinking, who chooses to do their first 5K at 9 months pregnant? But, in my defense, I was super fit this pregnancy. I would do classes at Gold's Gym daily (Zumba, Turbo Kick, Pilates) and I'd run on the treadmill/elliptical as well. I've been doing that since June 2010 (shortly after I had Hina). And then over the summer, Spencer and I would run along the Provo River Trail, so I felt fine actually.
Excerpt from that day:
So not only did I participate in the 5K, but I actually jogged most of it. This was such an accomplishment for me because not only was it my first time, but I am only 4 1/2 weeks out from my due date. Yup, I am 35 1/2 weeks pregnant! So that is the craziest part about this whole thing. The joke was on me that I was going to go in to labor sometime today and have a 4th of July baby by tonight--to go along with my St. Patrick's & April Fools babies. Haha! But since it is now 11:40pm at night, it looks like we are safe. Phew!
The funniest part about the whole thing was all the people cheering and yelling out to me. Spencer said he wished he had our video camera with him so he could record all the things people were saying and yelling, and so he could get them all clapping for me. (So shame! Haha.) It was super fun, though! I was planning on mostly just walking it and maybe jogging here and there, but instead, we ended up jogging the majority of it.
Loved my first time experience running a 5K and loved that both Spencer and I got to experience this first together. I hope there will be many more of these in the future.
