After returning home from our summer travels I was ready for something new.
Nothing against Crossfit (I love Crossfit and still have a punch card left to use there), but I just felt like the best thing for me at the time was to do more cardio based workouts since I still had quite a bit of fat left to lose. Since I had experienced a few classes at Turtle Bay last summer when I was pregnant, I figured I'd go back and try some of those classes out again to see if I would be interested in a membership there. After a week of testing them out, I was sold. It just felt right. Plus the membership was the same price as my Crossfit membership so I was basically just transferring my money from one place to another. It didn't feel like an extra cost or burden at all.
So I tried out the gym and the fitness classes and what I decided on was an "unlimited classes membership." I decided to do that one because I love the variety of classes they have to offer. They have HIIT, Barre, Pilates Reformer, Spin, TRX, Pound, a variety of Yoga classes, as well as a few other classes like Bottoms Up Abs Out, Spin and Sculpt, Yogalates, Hiva Fitness and one of my favorites, Aqua Fit. Plus that was the membership that was the same price as Crossfit (the gym membership is more), so it was a pretty easy pick for me.
I started in the middle of August and have been going strong for the months of September, October and now going in to November. I have been loving it so far and the great thing about it is if I am having a lazy day or if I had a rough night with baby, I can choose to go to a lower intensity class (that I know my body can handle) vs. not going at all. I know when I was doing Crossfit and had days like that, I just couldn't bring myself to go. But now I can just opt out for an easier type of class and still get some kind of work out in for the day, even if it's really low key. The downside to that, is sometimes I don't go to enough high intensity/cardio based classes, which is the whole reason I got that membership in the first place. So I still have to do some self-motivating on my part, but overall it's been great!
As far as weight loss goes, I have lost about 22 pounds so far and have about 8 to go. I lost 10 doing the 21 Day Fix in April/May and lost the other 12 doing Crossfit, the Bike Path and the Turtle Bay Classes over the past couple of months. Now I'm down to the last hardest stubborn pounds, but I am determined. I'm going to try really hard during November and December to get there. There couldn't be a worse time of year to be trying to do this, but I am so close and I worked way too hard to just throw it down the drain.
So instead of taking a break from eating healthy and working out (which is what I usually do during these two months of the year), I am actually going to push through it and do the best that I possibly can. Yes, I know there will be a lot of cheating going on, but it's the holidays, there is no way around that. However, I am not going to completely throw in the towel either. My goal is to still eat healthy 75-80% of the time and just have the cheats when they come. I will also stay active the entire time as well, thanks to the Turtle Bay classes.
So if I actually succeed with all of this--during this time of the year--it will probably be a first in my book. So wish me luck! I am sure going to need it. Food and the holidays are def my weaknesses!
